Who we are
We are a small editorial desk of writers, researchers and building trade contributors. Frankie Sylver started as a shared notebook about the real cost of fixing, buying and designing houses. Today we publish free guides for readers who want a straight answer before they sign a contract, list a home or order a kitchen.
Our mission
We cover five desks: Home Improvement, Real Estate, Interior, Contractor and Architecture & Design. Every guide names the figures behind the advice, explains the assumptions and gives a clear next step. When a project only works with a subsidy or a best-case quote, we say so early rather than burying it at the end.
Editorial standards
No sponsored rankings and no pay-to-play lists. We research current prices, read the permit and code material that applies, and compare at least two sources before publication. We correct errors in public and date every revision. If a method fails in real use, we explain why and what we would do instead.
How we research
Our figures come from contractor quotes, supplier invoices, public agency data and interviews with tradespeople. We separate installed cost from equipment price, and we distinguish a measured result from a manufacturer claim. For energy, housing and safety topics we check the guidance published by agencies such as energy.gov and hud.gov.
The team
Our contributors include a building inspector, a former mortgage processor, an interior designer and two working tradespeople who review technical guides before they ship. Each review checks dimensions, prices, code references and the small print that decides whether a job passes inspection.
